BFG & Service Schedule Change

Beginning March 4th, the times of our service and campus BFGs will change. Instead of meeting only before service, BFGs will meet both before and after service. In order to accommodate this change, the service time will be moved up to 10:00 am. Please mark your calendars for this change and talk with your BFG leader if you have any questions.

If you are currently not involved in a BFG, there is a table in Crossroads where you can get more information on how to join a BFG.

Give.Go Special Offering

We will be taking up a special offering on March 4th for our Give.Go campaign. We look forward to see how God will work among us as we seek to retire the debt on this building as quickly as possible!

Our goal for this year is $350,000!

Why My Sons Wear #44: Hank Aaron, Racism and My Last Name

If you have been around Ashland for a while, you may have noticed Pastor Jeremy’s sons running around wearing their baseball jerseys. You also may have noticed that all wear the same number: 44.

Pastor Jeremy has an article up on Baptist Press discussing why all his boys wear the number 44 on their baseball jerseys.

He writes:

Much of our kids’ sports activities have centered around baseball. Right now, we have four boys playing in four different leagues, all at the same park. One benefit to spending so much time at the same ballpark is that everyone knows our family. They have also come to know that the Haskins’ kids come in all kinds of shapes, shades and sizes. And yet, there is one thing they all share in common. On the diamond, they all wear No. 44.

On March 16-17, 2012, the Veritas Student Ministry will be going to Louisville, Kentucky, to attend the Give Me An Answer Conference. The conference is called “Renown,” and will focus on the glory of God displayed in the majesty of Christ. They will seek to understand what implications God’s renown has for our lives. Should We Keep Score?

Pastor David thinks we ought to keep score, for the Gospel is at stake. He writes in a recent Baptist Press article:

“Nice little boys and girls who just want to have fun and feel good are not being equipped to give their lives for the sake of the Gospel among unreached people groups or even the difficult people in their own neighborhood. When scoreboards are turned off, as though keeping score is unspiritual, sports are stripped of the core of what makes them such a valuable metaphor for the Christian life. There are eternal winners and losers (Revelation 3:21). We are to count the cost, take up our cross and follow Him because we know what is at stake. At its best, sports provide Christian parents a limited but genuine theater for the examination and cultivation of Christ-honoring characteristics.”
