Veritas Student Ministry

The Student Ministry of Ashland Avenue Baptist Church seeks to be family based, meaning the goal of our student ministry is not to detach the Christianity of our teenagers from the two most important families on the planet.  Our desire is to champion the role God has ordained parents to have in the life of their children, while at the same time calling all students believe the gospel and follow Christ by committing their lives to His church,  the family of God.

Do Hard Things! (Students)

No one expects much of anything from teenagers.  We give them a 10 year (sometimes longer) sabbatical from life between the ages of 13-23 and tell them to just kind of ‘hang-out’ while the world moves forward. And hanging-out seems to be what they do best.

Meanwhile, they are given permission to think and talk like ‘adults’, at least, when they feel like it.  They are allowed to experiment with ‘adult’ feelings and ideals.  But, they are never called to act like ‘adults’ by taking on ‘adult’ responsibilities and suffering ‘adult’ consequences for their decisions.  Could it be that such a passive attitude about the adolescent years is what brings about the rebelliousness that is commonly associated with the teenagers?

Alex and Brett Harris are leading what is called the rebelution.  They are calling teenagers to rebel against the expected and often encouraged passivity they have about living life. Central to the rebelution is the call to ‘Do Hard Things’.  In their newly released book, this call to Do Hard Things is explained.  It’s a book every teenager should read.  Even more, its a book every Christian parent should expect their teenager to read, even if it may be a hard thing to do
